The tooth! The tooth!

j's FIRST tooth finally broke through. Finally. Thank goodness he won' be toothless for his birthday. You still can't really see it, but it's there.

The weather forecast for the party...

High: 82 °F RealFeel®: 78 °F
Mostly cloudy and warm; periods of rain in the afternoon

:(

The party is in the afternoon. It's still a ways away so I know the forecast will change. I'm on the watch!

Pat the Bunny

j's been playing on his own more and more.  I like to just sit and watch him.  It's amazing the new things he comes up with and figures out.  Yesterday I was watching him play with a toy dog in a car.  The dog would bark at him.  j would yell back then burst out laughing.  I didn't get the joke, but it must be hilarious.  If he picks up something that is made of fabric or plastic, his first inlcination is to try and rip it apart.  He sat for about two minutes trying to rip a part a little swimmers diaper.

His favorite book is "Pat the Bunny".  He crawled over to the futon in his room, pulled himself up, cruised across it, and grabbed his favorite book.  He brought the book to me and we read it.  It's kind of an interactive book.  You lift a piece of cloth to play peek a boo with one of the characters.  You pat the bunny.  You feel daddy's whiskers.  You smell the flowers.  You put your finger through mommy's ring.  Can you tell I've read it alot?  j now does all the above by himself without any prompting.  I was really surprised when he played peek a boo without any prompting.  I was really really surprised when he brought the book up to his nose all by himself to smell the flowers.

We are one tired family.

I don't know what happened to our relaxing weekends.  They seem to have disappeared.

On Saturday, T had to go to a board meeting for his fraternity.  That left j and I alone for most of the morning.  When he woke up from his morning nap, we had some lunch.

Duke took his new favorite spot during meal time.

Duke will even give up time outside if he knows j is eating a meal.

After lunch, we headed out to get some supplies for j's birthday extravaganza in a couple of weeks.  After we ran our errands, we had Jake's birthday to attend.  It was a GORGEOUS day.  I can only hope that the weather is half as nice for j's birthday.

Jake's party was at a park so we were able to play on the equipment.  j loves the swings.

He's a fan of just hanging out on the grass, too.

The slide wasn't too bad, either.

The best part was that the daddies got to participate.

Vienna held court amongst all her boys.

Surprisingly, we got all the little ones together without tears.

Most importantly, I think Jake had a great time at his birthday party!

After the party and a SHORT nap, we decided to spend some time in the front yard while T mowed the back yard.  Since this is our first spring at the house, we've been pleasantly surprised at all the flowers popping up.

T had to work on Sunday morning so j and I had to wing it solo for Sunday breakfast.  It wasn't bad.  After j's morning nap, we met Shannon at the OG (Olive Garden for those not in the know) for some lunch.

We tried to do some shopping afterwards, but I think j's short naps on Saturday caught up with him.  He fell asleep almost an hour early for his afternoon nap and slept for two hours.  Nice for me since I took a nap with him, bad for T because he kept on working on the kitchen.  We started painting the kitchen last weekend.  We've finished the walls, trim and half bath.  I need to finish the doors and T started re-glazing the tile, the bathroom sink, and the toilet.  Let's hope it's worth all the work!

For dinner on Sunday, we decided to pull out the high chair for j.  We've been using his portable booster/high chair.  We haven't used his highchair until now because it doesn't have anything to keep him from falling out the bottom.  Before you ask, "Why would you buy a high chair that doesn't have anything to keep him from falling out the bottom", I'll let you know that the chair was Trevor's when he was a baby.  Now that j is bigger, we have less worries of him falling out the bottom and more of him jumping over the side.  Well, we think we solved all our problems so we pulled the chair out.  I think everyone (j, mommy and daddy) are happy with the decision.

An update

I remember the days before we had j.  Honestly, we were so lazy.  I miss those days.  Things are just way more...filled.

We were supposed to head to Dallas for our dear friend's wedding.  It was supposed to be my first weekend away from j.  I stressed about it for weeks.  I planned and prepped for days.  I wrote out a 3 page list of fyi's for grammy and gramps.  Long story short, the flight was cancelled and they couldn't get us to Dallas until after the reception was to start.  We ended up right back at our house 4 hours after arriving at the airport.  We decided since grammy and gramps were ready to babysit, we'd take the afternoon and evening and head out into the city just the two of us.  We ended up meeting a couple of friends for drinks and dinner.  It was fun, but we couldn't help but marveling at the fact that we used to have to time to do things like that ALL THE TIME.  How our Saturday afternoons used to be so....empty.  It all worked out for the best, though.  Grammy and gramps got to get their feet wet with babysitting without having to do the hard part, bedtime.

This past weekend, we decided to paint.  Well, it's bleeding into this week, too.  I'm excited, though.  It's fun to think that we're making the house our own.

j is getting better at the gym.  He's lasting about 45 minutes now.  I'm thinking he could go longer so maybe I'll be able to actually take a shower and enjoy the spa very soon.  If he does well next week, I may sign up for the spinning class.  I'm scared.  Working out is so different than it used to be.  It gives me time to zone out.

j is learning stuff left and right.  We're still waiting for the first tooth to cut.  It looks as though the bottom two may come through at the same time.  He's, understandably, grumpy at night.  I'm sure it's pretty painful.

The other day I had my best mommy moment ever.  I was cradling him for his nap.  He was grumpy so I gave him a little kiss on his eyelid.  He calmed down and I gave him another kiss on the other eyelid.  His eyes shot open, he yelled at me, reached up, gave me a kiss and promptly fell asleep.  Loved it.

Yesterday he slammed his hand and started crying.  I picked him up, calmed him down then went to change his diaper.  I was talking to him and he was laughing.  Once I stopped talking, he started flexing his hand and crying again....five minutes later.  Totally milking it..

Play time!

We had a practice run for j's birthday party yesterday. It was a blast.  Including j, we had 7 kids creating havoc on the play room.  The mommies brought some awesome things to munch on and I borrowed Shannon's recipe for sangria (no alocohol version, of course).  It was so much fun.  We can't wait to host again!

Birthdays...

j has been quite the party goer lately.  Here's a snapshot of the latest ones.

Owen turns 1 on April 9...our anniversary!...so his momma decided to have a birthday playdate.

Things were going well...

...until we decided to get a group shot...

Notice how the only girl of the group, Vienna, is oblivious to the boys' shenanigans and just wants to read a book.

A few days earlier we attended Harry's birthday...

...where j mingled with the ladies...

I have to thank Vienna's mom, Anya, for always taking the pictures...or I'd not have anything to show anyone!

Night Night

T told me this story last night which we thought was hilarious.

Part of j's bedtime routine is to read a book.  It works great for nap time, but at bedtime, j sometimes doesn't have the patience or desire to read a book.  Last night T was super excited because j sat down next to him and patiently sat there while T read the book.   Until about five minutes into it when he straight up fell forward onto his face.  I guess he was so exhausted after only having his 30 minute afternoon nap, he fell asleep sitting up!  Either that or dad just can't read a book nearly as well as mommy can...

favorites

I'm a horrible blogger.  Things have been hectic.  We're preparing for a weekend away, a first birthday (yikes!), had a couple of houseguests, and have been attending first birthdays left and right.  It's been fun, but tiring!

So here are a few pictures of j's favorite things to do...

He loves to play with the cd's.

He loves to "share."

He'll take it right back, though.  Still, he gives it a shot.

He loves to knock down anything that you've stacked up.  He loves to read books, too.  He loves to play "kick" around a ball and chase it around the house.

It's a game that Duke would love to partake in, but isn't allowed.  He is pretty good at knowing the difference between his toys and j's.  Not that he's happy about it.
