painting pinecones

anna was napping when I decided to start the pinecone painting.  You can see me holding the camera remote in one of the pics.  I'm still glad I got in some with jake.  When anna woke up, I had to abandon the idea of getting in the pics.  Its hard to handle two kids, paint and try to get in the picture at the same time.  I wanted to paint the pinecones white and put them into clear vases for a bit of decoration.  jake wanted "all the colors, mommy." Of course you do.

pony wall

Am I the only one that calls half walls pony walls?  I have no idea where I got it from but, Trev looks at me like I'm crazy every time I call it a pony wall.  Maybe he just thinks I'm crazy.

We decided to tackle the kitchen reno in small pieces.  Removing the pony wall between our dinette and family room was the first step...

You'll notice my awesome styling skills.  jake's shoe sitting in the middle of the walk way probably says way too much about my housekeeping abilities.

crazy pants

The kids have been crazy pants the last couple of days.  Like insane.  My knee jerk reaction would be to say its cabin fever but, we've had a pretty mild winter so far and we haven't been trapped by snow.  The hours from 3-6 are particularly crazy.  Holy witching hour...or hours.  They feed off each other.  I suppose I should be happy that they are working together.  Even if its working together for my insanity.

anna is running around the house roaring like a lion, ruffing like a dog, or waving her little hands yelling da-tee.  Not sure if I should think its cute or be a little worried.

jake is totally into making a solar system.  I bought all the supplies.  Its freakin' expensive to make a solar system. He knows a ton of information, though.  All thanks to Trev because I am totally not into space.  He knows the planets.  He knows that Pluto is a dwarf planet.  I guess my very intelligent mother no longer serves us nine pizzas.  He knows about the red storm on Jupiter.  He's obsessed with the red dot that is a storm on Jupiter.

Projects around here are usually fun.  When they go wrong, boy do they ever.  I thought we would give tissue paper stained glass a shot.  I totally underestimated how much jake loved the water bottle.  He wouldn't share it with anna who apparently loves the thing just as much.  A lot of fighting occurred over that stinkin' water bottle.  Finally, I put it away which meant more fits.  Once I got him to put paper on the window, all he wanted to do was ball up the pieces and make soggy balls.  By that time, my vision so wasn't happening and I was beyond frustrated and we just called it a day and I turned the tv on.

The pictures suck because there were so many fights, fits, crying and yelling that I didn't have time to adjust settings.  Can't win them all, I suppose.

the look

No idea who she gets this look from....

the kitchen reno starts

anna got a bunch of food for her kitchen for Christmas.  One of the gifts was a set of the four food groups.  One of the food groups includes a chicken leg.  I looked up the other day to see anna singing into the chicken leg like a microphone.  She loves stirring things.  She'll take the little itty bitty spoon that is part of her tea set and stir in the cup forever.  She likes to take pots and pots out of the cupboards, yell out me to get her a spoon, and she'll stir.  Apparently, I stir a lot when I cook.  She also loves to say "whoa" anytime she gets off balance.  Its so cute.

jake is an awesome big brother.  I was a little worried there for a bit, but he's awesome.  She's realizing it, too.  She wants to be where he is and do whatever he's doing.  We were at a friend's birthday party where there was a pinata.  Once the pinata was broken, jake grabbed a bunch of stuff for himself then much to our surprise came to the back of the room with a bunch of stuff for anna, too.  He's even sharing candy with her.  She had her 18 month well baby check up the other day.  jake asked if she was going to get pokes...he calls shots pokes.  We said probably.  Trev asked if he was going to give her a hug to make her feel better.  jake said a hug and a kiss.  Love!

We've started the kitchen renovation...well at least we did back in November.  Here are the before pictures.  You'll notice that I took the time to clean up before I took them.  I like to think it will just make the afters seem that more dramatic.

babysitting

One morning before Halloween, Mrs. PolkaDotsandPuppies needed a sitter.  I volunteered.  I don't know. Everyone needs to have a morning with four kids under four at some point in their life, right?  So I maybe was a little fearful that she would come back to find me sitting at my kitchen table totally defeated drinking a vodka and sprite at 11am while the kids ran around me in circles.  I decided that the best way to prevent that lovely little scene would be to plan some serious activities and keep the kids busy.

We started by making muffins.  Nothing fancy.  Just a mix with some added blueberries.  Then we carved some pumpkins.  I was way nervous about the pumpkin carving being crazy messy.  It actually wasn't bad.  None of the kids were totally into the gobbity goop.  jack wanted a mean face on his. I had no idea how to carve a mean face.  Last we made mini pizzas.

I think the kids had fun.  They all behaved really well.  I didn't get a chance to change out of my pj's or change my kids out of their pj's so I'm not entirely sure how I would survive with four kids on a daily basis.  I'm not always sure how I survive with two on a daily basis.

P.S. Just so you know, the tv was on the toddler music channel. We weren't watching Spongebob the whole time.

together

This picture is the wall image on my phone.  It makes me smile.

halloween

For some reason I've decided that I want to make the kids' costumes.  Not entirely sure why.  I'm sure I don't have too much longer until jake insists on having some kind of superhero store bought costume.  Oh well.  I still have anna.

This year jake said he wanted to be Bob the Builder.  Well, it was a toss up between Bob the Builder and a shark.  He ultimately chose Bob.  Its hard to find a pair of overalls for a 3 year old.  I should say its hard to find a pair of overalls for a 3 year old that don't cost a lot because his mother doesn't really like overalls so he'll never wear them again.  I ended up getting him 18 mo old overalls by mistake.  They are soo short but, his boots covered the slack....or lack of slack.

anna chose to be a butterfly.  Ha!  I just wanted to make butterfly wings.  I took some inspiration from the Pottery Barn Kids butterfly costume.  i was pretty happy with how those wings turned out!

We had a few costume events to attend.  First we went to a local nursing home to visit with the residents. I kind of thought we'd go from room to room and trick or treat.  Ummm...no.  They had all the residents sitting in a big circle then asked the kids to sit in the middle of the circle.  It was a little....awkward??  The residents didn't even have candy.  Bummer since I told jake we were trick or treating there.  The manager did pass out a goodie bag at the end.  Thank goodness.  It was getting ugly.

Later that day, jake had the costume parade at preschool.  It was cute.  So fun to see him looking for me then smiling when he saw me.  Or maybe he was smiling because he got even more candy?

Actual trick or treating was short but sweet for anna.  We only took her to a couple of houses.  jake and I went on with the neighbors to more houses.  anna was a bit confused at first but, once the candy hit the bag, she knew what was going on.  Funny how it doesn't take long for kids to realize the deal behind trick or treating.

So some of these are from my phone.  Funny enough, I had full memory cards on trick or treat day and only got one picture of the kids.  Thank goodness for the iphone!
